Project Outputs

The main objective of the project's research team is to produce a series of outputs focussed on the interpretation of the Franciscan Summa Halensis. These include three monographs, a series of edited volumes, and a series of reports on the manuscript tradition of the Summa, which anticipate further critical edition projects. The project will also support the production of an online, searchable edition of the Summa. See 'Primary Texts' below.

Citing the Summa Halensis

The project seeks to standardise citations to the Summa Halensis along the following lines.

First instance of citation should read as follows:

Alexander of Hales,Doctoris irrefragabilis Alexandri de Hales Ordinis minorum Summa theologica (SH), 4 vol. (Quaracchi: Collegium S. Bonaventurae, 1924-48), Vol I, P1, In1, Tr3, Q1, M1, C1 (n. 73), p. 114.

[indicating volume 1, part 1, inquiry 1, tractate 3, question 1,

membrum 1, chapter 1, paragraph number 73, page 114]

Second instance of citation should read as follows:

SH I, P1, In1, Tr3, Q1, M1, C1 (n. 73), p. 114.

Where it would lead to confusion, a shorthand could be used for further citations:

SH I (n. 73), p. 114.

Prolegomena:

Victorin Doucet, ‘Prolegomena in librum III necnon in libros I et II,’ in Doctoris irrefragabilis Alexandri de Hales Ordinis minorum Summa theologica, vol. 4 (Quaracchi: Collegium S. Bonaventurae, 1948)

Indices:
